It is a very vocal minority who seem to think capital projects are more important than transportation improvements and what comes with these improvements is traffic safety. Heck, why are we building additional/activity centers when we can't get there. These capital projects are luxuries in a time when we need improved infrastructure. It would make sense to me if the county would require traffic and fiscal impact studies on these new parks, senior centers, libraries. etc. They require them on all new subdivisions.

I can assure you that 85% transportation improvements will guarantee 60% of the vote.

If you remember back last year when we sponsored the commissioner candidate debate, each candidate promised improved transportation and commercial priorities. Let's not let them forget. They did not say much about capital boondoggles.

Another point: If these not-for-profits want SPLOST money, let them raise 50% matching funds for their capital improvements.

Face facts. SPLOST III will pass. Henry citizens talk a lot , but they do not show up at the polls. Another low turnout will mean 5 more years of the sales tax.

So, educate yourself. Beat on your commissioner. Beat on your city councils. Demand a specific project list with specific budgets and timelines.

If we as citizens and voters do not exercize our rights and duties, do not expect any elected official to read our minds!
