Illegals

Don’t tell me that Kerry or Schumer are misunderstood; that they really do not intend to show abhorrence for the US military. They are given a free pass to insult and belittle those men and women who provide the safe haven for their vitriol. These are the people who promote the socialism of Western Europe with all its weaknesses, and are ready to tell the world that the United States causes most of the world’s problems. Their concept of one-world order and government largesse will surely bring the same population and immigration problems now seen in Europe.

Don’t tell me that Georgia’s Democrats are innocents who truly care about voting rights. The debacle over free voter identification cards proves otherwise. It is not their concern that only legitimate, qualified American citizens vote. Their goal is to strengthen their assumed voter base using illegal aliens and others with dubious credentials.

Since the mid-term election last week every talking head on television, and paid analyst writing for the print media has wrongly explained the results. The reason is simple. When Democrats act like Republicans, they win; When Republicans act like Democrats, they lose. It is that simple. Republican members of Congress failed to complete the mission they were elected to perform – and they lost.

The great majority of losing Republicans were economic moderates or liberals. Congress spending like a drunken sailor was never anticipated by any faction of voters who put these folks in office. The whole idea of smaller government was lost. The onslaught of illegal aliens got their attention, but that problem was also given a pass to please “business interests” and make an effort to buy some votes. The religious right (not to be taken as a derogatory term) firmly believed they would get a constitutional amendment establishing marriage as between one man and one woman. Political correctness ruled the last Congress and voters felt betrayed.

On the immigration issue, even so-called conservative pundits have been catering to the mainstream press story line. They have said Republican losses were attributable to the hard line taken against illegal aliens. This is simply not true. It was the failure of Congress to pass meaningful legislation; not to mention the president’s amnesty program. Voters felt betrayed because they honestly thought the Republican leadership would place America and Americans first in all things.

The problem will not go away by itself. A combination of the president wanting a massive amnesty program, Democrats wanting Latino votes, and contributors to both parties wanting cheap labor will surely belay any positive near-term action. Yet the reasons for unrest and concern stare us in the face daily.

Last year Gwinnett County police formed a Quality of Life unit. Due to their efforts to clean up neighborhoods, the AJC reports, “Gone are the parked cars on lawns, debris piles and backyard chickens. Missing, too, are many of the immigrant tenants residing at the duplexes.” The daily number of day laborers at one Grayson Highway location has reduced from 75 to 20-30. Illegals – er, I mean day laborers – were arrested for trespassing, DUI and other offenses. In a week and a half in September, 79 citations were issued and 33 arrests made.

Health care cost is a huge problem in America. Many Americans cannot afford insurance, required by doctors and hospitals – if you are an employed US citizen. And constantly rising costs force families to pay more for decreases in coverage. Working, taxpaying Americans are in a real healthcare bind. Yet, Juanita easily crosses the border to deposit little Juan and, violá, Juan is given citizen status and Juanita has her anchor. Surely her siblings and cousins will soon follow. Their healthcare, education and needed services will also be provided, courtesy of the American taxpayer.

Open borders cost millions and millions in tax dollars! At Parkland Memorial in Dallas the costs exceeded $33 million in 2005. That is just one hospital. And that was just for pregnant mothers and delivery of babies! These costs were covered in large part by Medicaid (federal tax dollars) and believed to consist of 56% for illegal aliens. If we extrapolate that $18 million or so to follow the illegals across the country, the costs to taxpayers for anchor babies alone are staggering. Next add the impact to school systems, police agencies, property values and the economy.
The injection of large numbers of unskilled workers into the economy does not benefit the bulk of the population to any great extent. It benefits the nanny-and housecleaner-using classes; it benefits employers who want to pay low wages; but it does not benefit indigenous, unskilled Americans, who have to compete with immigrants willing to work hard for very low wages in unpleasant working conditions. The economy becomes dependent on a constant influx of immigrants who are willing to accept low pay and poor working conditions. That is what politicians mean when they insist that “services would collapse without immigrants”.

Social progressives across the country (as reported in the San Jose, CA Mercury News) lambaste US Rep. Charlie Norwood for his 2006 legislation requiring verification of US citizen before receiving Medicaid funds. It is positioned as “putting the babies’ health at risk” and “denying medical care” to America’s newest, smallest and most needy citizens. They have the task of winning our hearts by invoking pity and a sense of charity. The oldest tactic is, if you disagree then you are a bad person. Regardless of sound reasons against illegal aliens soaking the resources of our country, speak out and you are a nativist (yeah, a new word provided by liberal pundits) or a bigot or simply ignorant. Yes, ignorant of the magnificent benefits America gains from low wage workers who are only doing jobs Americans do not want. Never mind they introduce a foreign culture and language and have no intention to assimilate into the American way of life.

Let’s be honest, though. Congressional moderates and so-called conservatives (read RINOs) are allowing the left-wing to carry their water. Note they have been eerily silent on the real immigration issues. Both sets of hypocrites are abusing the illegals. On the one hand, there is a huge desire to gain a voting block. On another hand, there is cheap labor. Everyone, except the American taxpayer and the illegals, win something.

Why did the Republicans get a “thumping?” They ignored issues of real concern to America’s conservative voters. They refused to act, and the left-wingnuts Pelosi is backing for committee chairs will not act. There is a gamble and a prayer that real conservatives will emerge, willing to represent core American values and always place America first.
